The third UNESCO World Higher Education Conference (WHEC2022) was an opportunity to bring together various stakeholders to define and prepare a roadmap for a new era of higher education in response to global challenges and issues in the current age.
On this occasion, Prof. Maha Gmira took part in a roundtable discussing the impact and potential of AI in advancing education. The main objective of this roundtable was to highlight the intrinsic relationship between AI and higher education in an era where digital and advanced technologies are omnipresent, to explore the potential of AI in advancing higher education institutions, and thus to define the roadmap these institutions must adopt to accelerate their progress and development within the framework of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations and according to the Beijing Consensus on Artificial Intelligence and Education. In this regard, Prof. Maha Gmira emphasized the importance of rethinking the model for accessing learning of new technologies through inclusion and equality of opportunity and gender to offer everyone the possibility to seize the advantages and opportunities offered by AI.
Organized by UNESCO in close collaboration with the Spanish government, the government of the Catalonia region, the Barcelona City Council and Regional Authority, and in partnership with GUNi/ACUP (Global University Network for Innovation / Catalan Association of Public Universities), this conference took place in Barcelona, Spain, from May 8 to 20.
