The 2022 global university ranking by Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings has just been unveiled.
The THE ranking is based on a multidimensional analysis of higher education institutions through their achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as measured by Thomson Reuters and Elsevier. It is noteworthy that recently established universities such as the Université Euromed de Fès or the International University of Rabat are ranked higher than other major national universities.
It is a global ranking, by subject and by reputation, and it also provides regional and national rankings. Alongside the Shanghai and QS rankings, the THE ranking is one of the most influential university rankings worldwide.
The 2022 ranking included universities from 106 countries. Eight Moroccan universities are ranked this year among the top 1000 universities in this global ranking. At the national level, the university ranking is as follows:
1st: Ibn Tofail University of Kenitra
2nd: International University of Rabat
3rd: Mohammed V University of Rabat
4th: Université Euromed de Fès
5th: Hassan II University of Casablanca
6th: Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University
7th: Abdelmalek Essaâdi University of Tetouan-Tangier
8th: Hassan I University of Settat
On the African scale, Egypt has 36 universities in this ranking, followed by Nigeria with nine universities, Morocco and South Africa with eight universities each, Ghana with six universities, Tunisia and Algeria with five universities each. Sudan, Tanzania, and Zambia each have one university in this THE 2022 ranking.
