Philosophy meeting, an opportunity to highlight medieval Arab philosophy

Miscellaneous announcements

The Night of Philosophers reinvents itself to become the Rendez-vous de la Philosophie which takes place from November 7 to 12, in Fez, Marrakech, Casablanca and Rabat.

This is an expanded event, organized by the French Institute of Morocco and which brings together leading Moroccan and French partners including the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Moroccan Ministry of National Education, preschool and sports, the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad, the Arab World Institute, the University Agency of La Francophonie, the Institution of Higher Education – HEM, Euromed University, the UFR of Philosophy from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.

For the first time, the Rendez-vous de la Philosophie will take place not only in Rabat and Casablanca, but also in Marrakech and Fez, cities highly symbolic for Arab culture and thought, allowing the event to take root more deep in Morocco.

The approach thus displays a renewed ambition: to place these Philosophy Meetings in Morocco on the map of intellectual exchanges between Europe and the African continent, to respond to the aspiration of a youth who are ever more connected and keen to think its future, and become the crossroads of ideas from which to explore new paths of thought.

The Rendez-vous de la Philosophie will also be an opportunity to highlight multiple cooperations, around the creation of a doctoral school of critical thinking in Fez which will welcome around thirty doctoral students from public and private universities or from training dedicated to philosophical method and practice for Moroccan teachers teaching in final year classes and preparatory classes (Marrakech). Finally, a national philosophy essay competition, in Arabic and French, was also launched among students in public and French schools in order to promote critical thinking.
