Euromed University of Fes had the honor of hosting, on Wednesday, September 25, a conference led by Professor Muriel Fabre-Magnan on the theme "The Institution of Liberty".

This first event of the UEMF Conference Cycle promised to bring enriching perspectives on contemporary themes, bringing together students, teachers, and legal professionals. This eminent law professor at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, recognized for her contributions to legal philosophy, shared profound reflections with the audience on the place of liberty in modern legal systems.

During her presentation, Prof. Fabre-Magnan traced the historical evolution of the concept of liberty through the Declarations of Human Rights, before analyzing how the European Convention on Human Rights frames individual liberties while imposing certain restrictions in the general interest. She then questioned the relationship between liberty and prohibition, showing that these two notions, far from being antithetical, can coexist in contemporary legal systems, where they help define the limits of liberties in a society governed by law.

The conference concluded with a rich interaction with the audience. Students, teachers, and legal professionals seized the opportunity to ask questions, sparking a lively debate around the legal issues raised. The exchanges allowed for a deeper exploration of the tensions between individual rights and collective responsibilities, thus offering participants a new perspective on current challenges.
