Lecture series

As part of its Lecture Series, the Euromed University of Fes hosted Moroccan filmmaker Abd Elilah El Jouahri on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, for a screening-debate around his film L’Esclave, released in 2023.

A director, film critic, and President of the Union of Moroccan Directors and Authors, Mr. El Jouahri also holds a doctorate in cinema, focusing on "Space in cinema through examples of Moroccan films". He is the author of several reference works, including "Cinema in Developing Countries Between Marginalization and Self-Assertion" and "Ouarzazate, a Space for Cinema". His filmography includes numerous award-winning fiction and documentary films, such as "La Danseuse", "Eau et Sang", "Rajaa, la fille du Mellah", "Hala Madrid, Visca Barça", "La Fenêtre du paradis", and "Le Mariage de Si Tayeb".

His latest film, L’Esclave, boldly addresses the issue of voluntary enslavement through the journey of Ibrahim, a young man in search of a master. The power of the narrative also relies on the performance of its actors, notably Saad Mouaffak in the lead role, alongside Omar Lotfi, Sahar Seddiki, Naima Ilyas, Ismail Abou-El-Kanater, Mohamed El Atir, and Hajar Chergui.

The event concluded with a rich exchange with the attending students, teachers, and guests, focusing on the themes raised by the film and the contemporary challenges of Moroccan cinema.
