Conference by Mr. Ghazi Gherairi: What Alliances for What World in 2024?

As part of the lecture series initiated by the Université Euromed de Fès, the Alliance of Civilizations Chair at UEMF organized a lecture delivered by Mr. Ghazi GHERAIRI on Thursday, February 7, under the theme: "Which Alliances for Which World in 2024?".

Holding a doctorate in public law and political science, Mr. Ghazi GHERAIRI is a former Ambassador representing Tunisia to UNESCO and to the International Organization of La Francophonie. He also served as Secretary-General of the International Academy of Constitutional Law.

Held in the presence of students, the University's Vice-Presidents, the Directors and heads of institutions, and the University's teacher-researchers, the conference featured moments of collective reflection on alliances of civilizations and the necessity of achieving a new, fairer, and more united world order. This was discussed by taking into account the diversity of contemporary societies and relying on constructive, honest, and sustainable dialogue.

The speaker highlighted a subject of crucial importance, given the current state of uncertainty enveloping all parameters related to international relations and global systems. He reviewed the political, economic, and ethical stakes of the alliance of civilizations in a recent context through a geopolitical and geo-economic reading of today's world. The climate crisis, humanitarian crisis, and even the emergence of new technologies and the use of artificial intelligence are all challenges humanity must face to create honest and healthy dialogue for a peaceful world and a universal civilization.

Thus, the meeting was an opportunity for UEMF students, particularly those in the Master's program in "Conflict Management and Alliance of Civilizations," to exchange with Dr. GHERAIRI on a number of questions related to the topics addressed during this academic lecture.

This event, which also falls within the framework of the Activities of the Alliance of Civilizations Chair of the Université Euromed de Fès, adds to the series of large-scale events held at UEMF. These aim to strengthen intellectual dynamism and stimulate reflection among the young students of the Université Euromed de Fès by offering them a genuine opportunity for revealing and constructive exchange.

It is worth recalling that the creation of this Chair was decreed during the 9th edition of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) World Forum, held in Fes on November 22-23, 2022, by the UNAOC High Representative, H.E. Miguel Angel Moratinos.
