Practical Civil Engineering Workshops

The practical construction workshops conducted by the Euromed Polytechnic School (EPS) in partnership with TGCC on May 13 and 20, 2023, for the benefit of 4th-year civil engineering students, focused on the execution of operations related to the construction works for the university's extension buildings (football field stands, multi-sports hall, Olympic swimming pool, 7-story administrative building…), as well as on major progress concerning:

- Masonry works (classic bricks, concrete blocks, insulating Monomur bricks);
- Floor slabs (mainly inclined slabs, hollow-core slabs, post-tensioned slabs, prefabricated slabs);
- Steel framework (profiles used, implementation process…);
- Drainage system around the buildings;
- Overall site management organization and technical terminology elements.

Various topics were thus covered, including:

- Concrete cracking and segregation;
- Presentation of articles from DTU 20.1 "Masonry works using small elements - Partitions and walls";
- Insulation and protection techniques;
- Role of a QHSE manager and a site engineer on construction sites.
