Dean of the FSITS
Professor Alhassani Wafaâ is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Health Techniques at the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez, a position she has held since January 2023 with a clear vision to establish the faculty as a center of excellence for training future healthcare professionals in Morocco and the Euro-Mediterranean region. This follows her previous role leading the same mission as Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Techniques at Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences.
Recognized for her remarkable professional journey, which embodies a strong commitment to improving healthcare training in Morocco—academically, institutionally, and on a human level. From a young age, she dreamed of becoming a healthcare professional, and fate led her to nursing. She earned her State Nursing Diploma and began her career in the Greater Casablanca Region, where she was quickly involved in managing health program activities, notably the health communication and education program.
Her passion for teaching and pedagogy, which she considers a true calling, led her to give her first lessons as early as 1997. This passion grew stronger over the years, through both practical experience and continuing education. She is indeed certified in andragogy and communication as a national trainer, and also holds a certificate in personal development and team coaching, further strengthening her expertise in adult pedagogy and group dynamics.
Driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge, Prof. Al Hassani continued her training by joining the inaugural class of the second cycle of paramedical studies at the Rabat Institute for Health Careers, where she earned her master's degree in health sciences education. A little later, she obtained a master's degree in Health Administration and Public Health from the National Institute of Health Administration in Rabat.
This career progression propelled her into positions of strategic responsibility within the Ministry of Health. As Head of the Basic Training Service and subsequently Head of the Training Division, she was a key player in major national reforms.
In this capacity, she played a major role in restructuring the training system for nurses, health technicians, rehabilitation specialists, and midwives in Morocco, actively contributing in 2013 to the implementation of the Bachelor's-Master's-Doctorate (LMD) system in the higher institutes of nursing and health technical professions. This reform aligned the curricula with national higher education standards and integrated the training into the university system, mirroring the international model.
His commitment to specialization also led to the nationwide establishment of crucial Bachelor's and Master's degree programs, such as those for neonatal nursing, occupational therapy, community health nursing, and Master's degrees in nursing science education, oncology-palliative care, and emergency medicine.
Her journey perfectly embodies the values of motivation, dedication, and professionalism. She personifies Moroccan nursing leadership, combining clinical expertise, a commitment to education, and a strategic vision for the advancement of the profession as well as the reform of health human resources policies.
