Dean of the FM
My name is Moulay Hassan FARIH, Professor of Urological Surgery and current Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at EUROMED University in Fez.
Passionate about medical education, I have dedicated a significant part of my work to mentoring students and developing new teaching approaches centered on active learning.
My primary education began in an oasis of Errachidia, and my secondary education at the first Royal Military High School, which at the time was located inside the 3rd American base in Kénitra.
After earning a scientific baccalaureate at Lycée Descartes, I entered the Faculty of Medicine in Rabat. Having passed the Internat entrance exam, I defended my Doctorate in Medicine before succeeding in a second competitive exam for the Master of Assistantship in General Surgery. I then specialized in the super-specialty of urological surgery at the Avicenne University Hospital in Rabat. Additional training, particularly in urodynamics, was completed in France, alongside clinical research and publications.
Success in the agrégation competition is the crowning achievement of this journey.
On a professional level, I had the pleasure of supporting the beginnings of the public Faculty of Medicine in Fez in September 1999. As Vice-Dean and then full-time Dean for almost fourteen years, I oversaw the various stages of its development alongside a few friends, establishing a quality education program supported by dedicated faculty members from Lyon.
In 2001, with the third class, hospital internships were established at the hospitals in Fès (Al Ghassani and Ibn Al Khatib). I was entrusted with the headship of the urology department in 2001 to build a hospital-university team. Together with my colleagues, I also monitored the construction of the Hassan II University Hospital from its very beginning.
For about twenty years, the duo of the Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital of Fez has taken on numerous challenges (teaching, experimental surgery, remarkable procedures — kidney transplantation, cochlear implants…).
My professional journey has been built around clinical hospital practice, knowledge sharing, and teaching—I have supervised approximately one thousand doctoral degrees, over 400 theses, and trained around fifty national urologists, including 8 professors and African specialists.
Currently serving as Dean of the EUROMED Faculty of Medicine, my commitment remains unchanged. Close student mentoring, pedagogical innovation, and guiding students toward excellence continue to be my primary focus.
For me, being a doctor means knowing how to listen, to share, to understand another's suffering with empathy and kindness. Technical skill is essential, but it must never overshadow ethics and humanism.
I encourage my students to cultivate scientific rigor while remaining attentive to the suffering and dignity of the patient.
This career, defined by being available for others, boundless compassion, and constant humility, has brought me in return the friendship of generations of students, doctors, and specialists, for which I am proud and grateful. It has also brought me academic recognition (as a Professor Emeritus of my former university), but above all, a Royal Decoration that I carry proudly in my heart—that of someone who, with humility, has added his stone to the edifice of our great nation, Morocco, with its millennia-old roots and its radiant future.
