SPANISH LANGUAGE TEACHER
Sara El Jemli is a translator, researcher, and university lecturer, specializing in film subtitling, intercultural mediation, and translation studies applied to cinema.
Holder of a doctorate in Italian Language and Literature from the University of Human Sciences and Letters in Rabat, she has dedicated her research to translation studies, film subtitling, and the analysis of the connections between language, culture, and the cinematic image.
Her international academic journey began in Italy, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation and a Master's degree in Languages and Cultures for Communication and International Relations from the University of Milan. She completed her education with an Erasmus program at the Universidad Europea de Madrid, focused on translation and communication.
On the professional front, Sara El Jemli currently teaches at Euromed University in Fez, where she is a member of the UNESCO Chair in Mediterranean Interculturalities and the ICESCO Chair in Arts, Societies, and Civilizations. At Euromed University, she teaches translation studies and the Italian language across several departments (FSHS, EMADU).
She also worked as a part-time Italian instructor at the Dhar El Mehraz Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Fez (October 2023 – July 2024).
Previously, she taught Spanish at the Euromed University Language Center and worked as a Spanish teacher in Italy. She also spent several years working as a translator between Fez and Florence.
Her scientific publications focus on film subtitling, artificial intelligence-assisted translation, and intercultural mediation through cinema. She is notably the author of *Le insidie della sottotitolazione* (La Ricerca, 2021) and several recent articles published in indexed journals. A work is currently in press: *Sottotitoli e Sguardi: La traduzione come incontro tra culture* (L’Harmattan, Paris).
Active in intercultural research and training, she has participated in several international conferences, notably at Euromed University and Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah University.
A polyglot, she speaks Italian, Arabic, French, Spanish, and English, and works to promote intercultural dialogue through language, cinema, and translation.
