Morocco, historically a transit nation and increasingly a country of settlement, confronts significant challenges regarding the integration and welfare of migrant populations, particularly those from Sub-Saharan Africa and Syria. Acculturative stress—precipitated by the loss of cultural anchors, linguistic barriers, administrative precariousness, and discrimination—constitutes a substantial risk factor for the mental health of these communities. Given the scarcity of conventional mental health resources and the amount of access barriers such as cost, stigmatization, and language limitations, digital psychological support systems, including e-mental health, teleconsultation, therapeutic chatbots, and online support groups, have emerged as a promising alternative.
This doctoral research project aims to identify the digital tools currently utilized by migrants in Morocco for psychological well-being and to analyze the specific psychological mechanisms, such as perceived social support, emotional regulation, and information accessibility, through which these tools moderate or mediate acculturative stress. Furthermore, the study seeks to evaluate the efficacy, acceptability, and cultural adaptation of a specific digital intervention within a sample of migrants residing in Morocco.
To achieve these objectives, the PhD candidate will employ a mixed-methods design, integrating quantitative surveys utilizing validated psychometric scales with qualitative interviews to elucidate the subjective experiences of the users.
Candidates are expected to carry out their research full-time within the structures of the Euromed University of Fes.
Under the direct supervision of thesis advisor, the doctoral candidate is expected to execute a comprehensive range of research activities. This role necessitates the initial conduct of a systematic literature review focused on acculturation stress and migration, alongside the development of a robust research protocol for submission to the relevant ethics committee.
Following approval, the candidate will manage the recruitment of the target population and oversee data collection through the administration of questionnaires and the facilitation of clinical or semi-structured interviews. The position further requires the rigorous processing of data utilizing both quantitative techniques, specifically descriptive and inferential statistics, and qualitative methods, such as thematic or phenomenological analysis.
Additionally, the PhD candidate is expected to disseminate research findings by drafting manuscripts for high-impact peer-reviewed journals (Q1/Q2) and presenting at national and international conferences, while also actively participating in research seminars and providing occasional mentorship to undergraduate and Master’s level students.
We seek a highly motivated and meticulous candidate who possesses a deep sensitivity to humanitarian challenges. The ideal applicant will hold a Master’s degree in Psychology (specifically Clinical, Social, or Cross-cultural), Public Health, or Cognitive Sciences.
The role requires a demonstrated proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, including a strong command of statistical software such as SPSS or R, alongside qualitative analysis techniques. Furthermore, a distinct interest in emerging technologies and e-health applications is essential for this position.
Regarding linguistic competencies, the candidate must exhibit an excellent command of English suitable for thesis writing, as well as reading of academic literature and scientific writing; proficiency in Arabic or African dialects, such as Wolof or Bambara, would be considered a significant asset for facilitating communication with participants during fieldwork.
Finally, the successful candidate will demonstrate a high degree of empathy, exceptional listening capabilities, and professional autonomy, all underpinned by a strict adherence to research ethics and deontology when engaging with vulnerable populations.
The application file must be sent to the Doctoral Studies Center (CEDoc) of the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fes by email no later than February 14, 2026, to the following address:
