
During the 9th United Nations Alliance of Civilizations World Forum held in Fez (UNAOC) from November 21 to 24, Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos Cuyaubé visited Euromed University of Fes on the occasion of the youth forum that took place at Euromed University of Fes on the sidelines of this event.
Mr. Moratinos Cuyaubé has dedicated his professional and political career to international relations and development cooperation, having notably served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (2004-2010), presided over the United Nations Security Council, and held the presidencies of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Council of Europe, and the Council of the European Union.
Mr. Moratinos Cuyaubé has also held several positions at the national level, including Deputy Director General for North Africa (1987-1991), Director of the Institute for Cooperation with the Arab World (1991-1993), and Director General for Foreign Policy in Africa and the Middle East (1993-1996). He also participated in organizing the 1992 Madrid Conference for Peace in the Middle East.
He began his diplomatic career as Head of the Coordination Section for Eastern Europe (1977-1980). He was then appointed First Secretary and later Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of Spain in the former Yugoslavia (1980-1984), followed by Political Counselor in Morocco (1984-1987). After serving as Spain's Ambassador to Israel in 1996, Mr. Moratinos Cuyaubé was appointed by the European Union as Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process (1996-2003), a role in which he promoted peace agreements and acted on behalf of the European Union to foster Israeli-Arab dialogue.
