Euromed University of Fes and the Sorbonne Law School are organizing the "Restructuring" Days in Fes on May 16 and 17, 2024.
Following the resounding success of the first edition, which brought together nearly 200 practitioners in May 2023, Euromed University of Fes is once again organizing, on its campus and in partnership with the Sorbonne Law School, the "Fes Restructuring Days" on May 16 and 17, 2024. This success is partly explained by the difficult economic context, which exposes many companies to financial difficulties and forces them to restructure to make their liabilities more manageable.
This unique and unprecedented symposium on the African continent will this year see the participation of more than 250 business leaders, heads of major legal and financial institutions, lawyers, court-appointed administrators, commercial court judges, specialized bankers from France and, beyond that, about a hundred heads of political and academic institutions from Morocco and Sub-Saharan African countries who are interested in and practice the law of corporate restructuring for distressed companies, including notably two ministers and a university rector from the Central African Republic.
Under the guidance of Professor François-Xavier Lucas, an expert in bankruptcy law and one of the key speakers at the Fes Restructuring Days, several panels of leading speakers will animate this training, which will be an opportunity this year to take stock of several particularly important current issues. These include studying the subtleties of the regime for declaring and verifying claims, which has become quite sophisticated over time, as well as new developments in European and international bankruptcy law, and the latest evolutions in security interests and preventive law. It will above all be an opportunity to discuss the first cases that have allowed practitioners to implement the new restructuring mechanisms within the framework of classes of affected parties and to revisit the baptism by fire these mechanisms have experienced.
Organized in partnership with the Association des Professionnels du Retournement (ARE), the objective of these study days also remains to bring together once again in Fes the main experts in restructuring law, thus fostering enriching exchanges beyond Mediterranean borders.
These days consolidate an exemplary multi-year partnership between Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and Euromed University of Fes, within the framework of which the Sorbonne Law School offers a very high-level dual Master's degree program in Business Law, jointly awarded by both universities. Access to this program is particularly demanding and selective; each cohort is composed of one-third students from France, one-third Moroccan students, and one-third students from Sub-Saharan African countries.
The pedagogy of the Master's program is characterized by a dynamic and interactive approach, fostering the acquisition of solid theoretical knowledge and the development of essential practical skills. Students benefit from courses taught by professors from the Sorbonne Law School or other major universities, as well as by recognized practitioners, all of whom are top specialists in their field of business law. They are encouraged to work in teams on projects, simulations, and discussions to strengthen their teamwork, interpersonal communication, and ability to work collaboratively. They are regularly confronted with real-life case studies from the business world, allowing them to apply their theoretical knowledge to concrete situations. This fosters the development of their analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. A mandatory internship in a law firm or company is included in the curriculum to allow students to gain practical experience in a professional environment related to business law. This experience promotes their immersion in the working world and offers them invaluable practical experience.
