Eco-Resilient Earthen Construction
Eco-Resilient Earthen Construction: Integrating Material Innovation, Seismic Safety and Environmental Sustainability
This research explores innovative approaches to enhance the performance of earthen construction materials through eco-engineering techniques. It aims to develop and evaluate sustainable earthen composites that improve mechanical strength, seismic resistance, and environmental durability. By integrating experimental testing, numerical modeling, and life-cycle assessment, the study seeks to establish a framework for resilient earthen construction that aligns with sustainable development goals and promotes the use of local, low-carbon resources in structural applications.
Candidates are expected to carry out their research full-time within the structures of EUROMED University.
- Conduct an extensive literature review on eco-resilient earthen materials and identify research gaps.
- Formulate and test innovative earthen composites with natural or low-carbon stabilizers.
- Analyze mechanical, hygrothermal, and seismic performance through experimental and numerical methods.
- Assess environmental impact using life-cycle and sustainability indicators.
- Develop design recommendations and publish results in high-impact journals.
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree or an Engineering diploma in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Mechanics, or Materials Science. Strong interest in interdisciplinary research combining experimental testing, numerical simulation, and sustainability is essential. Desired skills:
- Laboratory experience in material testing (compression, flexural strength, etc.)
- Familiarity with seismic behavior or thermal modeling tools
- Scientific writing and data interpretation
- Interest in heritage conservation and eco-innovation
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
CV, a cover letter, the PhD project, diplomas, and academic transcripts.
