Conference organized by the CNDP (National Commission for the Control of the Protection of Personal Data), on the theme of “the protection of genomic information”

On Monday January 30, 2023, the Euromed University of Fez hosted a conference on “the protection of genomic information”. An event organized by the National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP).
 

This event initiated by the National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP) saw the participation of numerous national and international experts in the presence of Prof. Mostapha BOUSMINA, President of the Euromed University of Fez, Mr. Omar SEGHROUCHNI, President of the National Commission for Control of the Protection of Personal Data (CNDP) and Mr. Hassan BOUBRIK, Director General of the National Social Security Fund (CNSS).
 

“Genomic information has become, in recent years, one of the essential levers for improving health systems. Managed on a large scale, outside of any regulatory framework, it can impact the safety of populations” announced Mr. SEGHROUCHNI, who recalled the sensitivity of genomic information given the very frequent use of its data which produces digital information so-called genomics whose manipulation and exploitation must promote the efforts of scientific research aimed at better understanding human beings with a view to improving their living conditions, while preserving the terms of their private life.
 

Mr. SEGHROUCHNI declared that the CNDP has initiated a consultation with the authorities concerned to better understand the rules for managing very sensitive personal genomic data, and to raise it to the level of international standards currently under construction.
