This event made it possible to gather from key stakeholders in the Region their perspectives on the challenges posed by climate change as well as their recommendations for actions to be implemented locally to help anchor the Region in a resilient development trajectory. and durable.

As the world emerges from the crisis linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, a consensus is emerging that the post-COVID-19 recovery process must be used to assertively address the threat of climate change. Morocco is one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, mainly due to water scarcity and its exposure to natural disasters, which are expected to increase with climate change. However, Morocco also finds itself in a particularly favorable situation, due to its large renewable energy resources, which should allow it to become a "clean energy champion" and join the global trend of decarbonization.

As indicated in the report on the New Development Model (NMD), territories represent a key level for anchoring development in a sustainable and inclusive trajectory. Even though the challenges of climate change are global, it is obvious that local actors will have a leading role to play in defining and implementing the solutions best suited to the challenges but also to the opportunities of each territory.

This event saw the participation of various distinguished panelists, such as Mr. Fathallah Sijilmassi, President of the Research Institute for European, Mediterranean, and African Studies (RIEMAS), Mr. Abdeslam Bekkali, Mayor of the city of Fez, Mr. Omar Tajmouati, General Vice-President – Acting President, CGEM Fès-Taza, Mr. M'hammed Dryef, Senior Fellow at the Policy Center for the New South, and Mr. Amjad Kiti, Director of the Economic and Territorial offer, Regional Investment Center of the Fez-Meknes Region.
