Financing economic recovery in Africa

RIEMAS Webinars

The UEMF and its components Euromed Business School and RIEMAS (Research Institute for Euro-Mediterranean and African Studies) organized a webinar on 01/21/2020 under the theme:

“Financing economic recovery in Africa”.

The problem of economic recovery has taken on greater importance since the start of the covid crisis. Faced with the scale of the crisis, several states have proposed ambitious recovery plans. For example, the European Union has mobilized a recovery fund of 750 billion euros to partly finance national and European recovery programs.

In Africa, the direct and indirect consequences of the pandemic have slowed the strong growth recorded by several countries on the continent in recent years.

Indeed, the pandemic and the containment measures put in place by governments have had an unprecedented impact on Africa's economic, health and political environment.

The question of economic recovery therefore arises in a particularly acute manner for the African continent. The urgency of this economic recovery requires the mobilization of colossal funds, which refers to the use of economic financing circuits, mainly the mobilization of debt.

The objective of this webinar is to address the question of economic recovery in Africa by combining the views of economic actors, government officials and academics.

- 8 nationally and internationally renowned Speakers share their ideas around three central themes:

  • Financing recovery plans
  • Financial capacity of African states/governments to respond to the crisis
  • African economies: over-indebted or under-financed?
