Academic partnership between UEMF and Israeli universities

A delegation from UEMF, made up of President Pr Mostapha Bousmina, Director of ÉIDIA, Pr Maha Gmira and Director of Partnerships and Innovation, Ms Ghada Bouhlal, traveled to Israel to strengthen the partnership with universities: Tel Aviv, Shenkar and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The delegation was also received by high personalities: the son of Shimon Perez, Minister Raphy Edery, the head of Morocco's liaison office in Tel Aviv.

The partnership covers: AI, robotics, biotechnology, precision agriculture and water.

UEMF students will travel to Israel and UEMF will receive Israeli students in 2023.

Teacher- researchers and co-supervised doctoral students will also travel in both directions. Welcome to the Shimon Perez Foundation for Peace and Innovation.

Pr. Bousmina recalled the history of Morocco by referring to its millennial Hebrew component. He evoked Morocco's reception of Jews in the 15th century following the persecutions they suffered in Spain and Portugal during the Reconquista. He recalled the role of the Alaouite dynasty for the protection of Jews, particularly during the Second World War when Mohammed V opposed the delivery of Moroccan citizens of the Jewish faith to the Vichy regime and the Nazis. Pr. Bousmina reviewed the solicitude of HM Hassan II and HM Mohammed VI towards Moroccan Jews. He underlined the actions towards the Moroccan Jewish identity component of the national identity according to the constitution of Morocco.

He explained the approach of HM Mohammed VI, to restore the Jewish heritage, restore the Jewish names of certain neighborhoods, include the contribution of the Jewish community in school textbooks and the Moroccan exception in terms of the Jewish family code. Prof. Bousmina spoke about the Abraham Accords and expressed his belief that they will be a driving force for peace and shared prosperity between Israel and the Arab world.
